My Kind of Valentines

Last weekend my family stumbled upon a very unique museum (Miracle of America Museum) in a small lakefront town called Polson, MT. I had passed by this place many times over the years that I first lived in Montana and would take road trips onto Missoula for some fun and shopping. I fell in love with a display of Victorian Valentine cards and snapped photos. They just don't make love notes like these anymore. Glad they are in a glass case to be preserved. Wish I had artistic talents like the ones who created these lovely pieces of history. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

Isn't this a cute coloring picture! Had to send it out to celebrate today.

It is my birthday and the family and I have been outside between rain/snow/slush showers visiting parks and statues snapping pictures.

We went to Giant Springs Park to look for the owls and owlets that have been reported there, but couldn't find them again this year. They may have already flown the coop headed onward as they don't stay around long. It was fun to walk around all except for tons of gnats (bugs) that swarmed around us at one point. I think I may have swallowed one because I had a coughing fit right after we fast pace left the area. I have even had a problem finding a great horned owl to picture here in this blog. Lord willing there will be next year to fulfill the quest of sighting and photographing one from me.




I ended my day by going out to eat at Chili's in Great Falls, Montana with my husband. One other experience with Chili's in Chattanooga, Tennessee a few years back found both of us talking all this time about going to the restaurant chain again. Wish I could say our memories were held to the test again this evening, but not the case. As a matter of fact, upon departure my words were that it has been taken off my list to do again. Tasteless is a word that comes to mind in my review of the experience of the food tonight.

On a good ending note of my day -- I won at Rummy against my son and husband.

Playing with Paper Dolls

I am exploring play with paper, card-making, paper crafts, and paper dolls this year. I found a sweet pattern on flickr.com for this oriental paper doll. This is the first one I made and have now completed two others that are a little bit bigger.

Savannah Rose is claiming this one as her own. She always wants the first trial on my experiments!

I think this oriental doll could be used as a bookmark or even an ornament on the Christmas tree if I add a ribbon on back for hanging.

Also, I have been playing with using a worn out deck of playing cards and came up with some flower creations from a punch I purchased. Now I have to decide what I want to put as flower centers and then how I am going to use the finished pieces. Something will come to me and I will have to update my blog posting.

I just love this photograph. The colors -- inspiration! I am ready to grab one of these pencils and get to work creating something. Let my imagination run wild -- only wish I could put on paper what is in my brain from what I see and like. Tame me down now.

On the other hand I picked up wonderful books today on my travel to Goodwill -- Paper Piecing the Seasons by Liz Schwartz & Stephen Seifert, Spirit of the Northwoods by Debbie Field (12 unique applique' blocks for spectacular wildlife wallhangings or a magnificent quilt), Schoolhouse Wallhanging by Eleanor Burns, and Fast, Fun Cards by Emma Hardy.

These will keep me going for some time!






Also, today I finished a quilt block as shown here that I will be sending to the Esme Kenney Memorial Quilt, c/o St Theresa Textile Trove, 5846 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45224. Quilt blocks are accepted through May 31st. To find out more about Esme Kenney just do a Google search. A sad story for a beautiful young lady.
