Chocolate Chips

Ever want to spice up some pancakes. My kids are now loving the surprise I did here recently in mine. So instead of plain or blueberry, they now ask for chocolate chip pancakes. I just use regular batter and then place the chips where I want them while cooking in the pan.
And always remember:

Country Lawn Mowers

Thought I would show you how we conserve and save on those high gas prices -- we have country lawn mowers. These characters show up every day on our lawn and do some munching. They stay a little longer when they don't get spooked. I carefully opened 2 doors and hung my digital camera out sideways to capture these photos. These sheep are known as hair sheep and are known as improved as they don't need sheering but they shed on their own. This first picture is of the leader to the bunch. He doesn't like to have his picture taken and I was pleased to capture him at the foot of our front steps.
There are four in all that come to visit. Another one is a new mother and stays pretty close to the shed out in the field on the property. I would love to snap a picture of her with her little one.

How Do You Decide Whom to Marry

HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHOM TO MARRY?
(written by kids)

You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
-- Alan, age 10

-No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with.
-- Kristen, age 10

2. WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?
Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then..
-- Camille, age 10

3. HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?
You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.
-- Derrick, age 8

4. WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?
Both don't want any more kids.
-- Lori, age 8

5. WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?
-Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
-- Lynnette, age 8(isn't she a treasure)

-On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
-- Martin, age 10

6. WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?
-When they're rich.
-- Pam, age 7( Love her )

-The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that.
- - Curt, age 7

-The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do.
- - Howard, age 8

7. IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?
It's better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.
-- Anita, age 9 (bless you child )

8. HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET MARRIED?
There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there?
-- Kelvin, age 8

And the #1 Favorite is .......

9. HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK ?
Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a dump truck.
-- Ricky, age 10

A Twinkle In Your Wrinkle

I absolutely love this. Read through completely.

This is wonderful…and the thought at the end is so true!

Never look down on anybody, unless you're helping them up.

Please read the following quietly then send it back on its journey

To realize the value of a sister/brother,
ask someone who doesn't have one.

To realize the value of ten years:
ask a newly divorced couple.

To realize the value of four years:
ask a graduate.

To realize the value of one year:
ask a student who has failed a final exam.

To realize the value of nine months:
ask a mother who gave birth to a stillborn.

To realize the value of one month:
ask a mother who has given birth to a premature baby.

To realize the value of one minute:
ask a person who has missed the train, bus or plane.

To realize the value of one-second:
ask a person who has survived an accident.

Time waits for no one--treasure every moment you have.

You will treasure it even more when you can share it with someone special.

To realize the value of a friend or family member: LOSE ONE.

Remember… hold on tight to the ones you love!

Do not keep this letter.

Send it to friends & family to whom you wish a good, long, happy, life.

Fairy Tale Morning

I awoke this morning to find my youngest child (not small by any means at 6 feet tall and only 11 years old) in the middle of our bed sound asleep. I nudged him a little and asked what he was doing in such a spot and he smiled sweetly, saying "sleeping". I told him that it was a little crowded and his dad replied the same. He just said, "I am just right". I told him I was reminded of Goldilocks and the Three Bears with us being Mommy Bear, Daddy Bear and him being a combination of Baby Bear and Goldilocks. He just laughed.

When his dad vacated the bed heading to the computer and then the shower, I told Avery that there was a book I had picked out just last night for us to read titled, Sleeping Ugly. Knowing right where I had left it, we snuggled in bed and took turns reading the pages of the short story.

At the end, it is so cute to read about the prince not being well practiced in kissing as he is the youngest son of the king (with no property or fortune) and has only ever kissed his mother and his father who has a beard. So he decides to kiss the other sleeping people in the little house that have been entwined in the story -- an ugly old lady (kissed on the nose who smells like cinnamon) and Plain Jane (whose kiss smells like wild flowers) before he kisses the sleeping princess (Miserella). One can only imagine or find the book to finish the different and happy ending as I am not going to give it all away here.

But, I will conclude that my 11 year said, "we are not discussing me and kissing anything" which made me laugh. I just love children and innocence!

We then picked up another chapter book we have been reading on and he made the comment, "there is kissing in that book too". "I was reading some the other day just for fun." Now to end on this note -- I think I have another reader in my family and am thrilled to know he picks up a book (quite a bit these days) to take a break from all his modern technology (games) just for fun.

Hope your morning has a fairytale start!

Happy Earth Green Day

Happy Earth Green Day!!!!

We here in Montana happen to experiencing quite a bit of the WHITE DAY this April 22, 2011.

From our local paper (The Great Falls Tribune) -- A spring storm dumped 7.4 inches of wet snow on Great Falls by 5 a.m., bringing 0.94 inches of precipitation over night that started as rain. Another couple inches of snow had fallen by 9 a.m., said lead observer Jerome Saucier of the National Weather Service. Higher elevations, under the warning, are expected to receive five to 10 inches of snow, while elevations of 3,500 feet or less are in the advisory area should see less. Great Falls is at 3,334 feet and lies in the northwest portion of the warning area so has already seen higher snow accumulations.

Thankfully by 5 p.m. the roads are melted off and things are just plain sloppy.

Wonder if we will be green for the Easter Egg hunt tomorrow at Gibson Park. Even though my kids are past the age of getting a basket full of goodies, I think a chocolate bunny just might tickle their fancy and put a smiles on their faces.

Aloha Christmas

Photo taken by my cousin, Stephanie Marron, Hawaii, December 2010

Can Christmas really be Christmas in Hawaii? Yes, it can. Hawaii residents begin putting up their holiday lights and Christmas trees as soon as the last piece of Thanksgiving turkey is gobbled. There are joyous Christmas concerts, community parades and dazzling displays throughout the state.

Christmas wasn’t formally introduced to Hawaii until after 1820, the year Protestant missionaries came to Hawaii from New England. In ancient times, however, the holiday coincided with a traditional Hawaiian festival called Makahiki. This celebration lasted for four months and included great feasts and games. During this time, wars and conflicts were strictly forbidden. As far as the early Hawaiians were concerned, the Makahiki was their time for "peace on earth and goodwill toward men."

The first Christmas celebration in Hawaii is believed to have occurred in 1786, when Captain George Dixon, docked aboard the Queen Charlotte in Waimea Bay on Kauai, commanded his crew to prepare a Christmas dinner that included roasted pig, pie and grog mixed with coconut milk. The English navigator then led his men in toasts to their families and friends back home.

In 1856, Alexander Liholiho (King Kamehameha IV) declared December 25 to be his kingdom’s national day of Thanksgiving. Two years later, Santa Claus made his first appearance in Hawaii, arriving at Washington Place (now the governor’s residence) to deliver gifts for the children.

Today, there’s no bigger Christmas celebration than "Honolulu City Lights," a favorite holiday spectacle put on by the City & County of Honolulu. Held at Honolulu Hale (City Hall), "Honolulu City Lights" features a 50-foot Norfolk pine Christmas tree, elaborate Christmas tree and wreath exhibits, giant Yuletide displays and live entertainment. Whether you’re young or young at heart, there’s no better place to catch the Christmas spirit in the islands.

Mele Kalikimaka! Merry Christmas!

Smart Women

This posting came from my dear sweet neighbor down the street. -- Hope it makes you smile. It sure did for me.

With time, women gain weight because we accumulate so much information and wisdom in our heads that when there is no more room, it distributes out to the rest of our bodies. So we aren't heavy, we are enormously cultured,
educated and happy.

Beginning today, when I look at my butt in the mirror I will think, "Good grief, look how smart I am!"

Must be where "Smart Ass" comes from!

Four Worms

A minister decided that a visual demonstration would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon.

Four worms were placed into four separate jars.

The first worm was put into a container of alcohol.

The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke.

The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup.

The fourth worm was put into a container of good clean soil.

At the conclusion of the sermon, the Minister reported the following results:

The first worm in alcohol - Dead.

The second worm in cigarette smoke - Dead

Third worm in chocolate syrup - Dead

Fourth worm in good clean soil - Alive.

So the Minister asked the congregation -

What did you learn from this demonstration?

Maxine was sitting in the back, quickly raised her hand and said,

'As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate,
you won't have worms!'

That pretty much ended the service --
